Meet the Founder
I started Le Lian because I believe what we choose to wear should actually mean something, not just look good.
Before Le Lian
I spent years working as a journalist and writer, reporting on trends and how people actually live: what they believe in, what they're drawn to, and why. It's an odd background for starting a jewelry brand, but it taught me to notice small, specific details instead of settling for what just sounds good on the surface.
What Wu Xing Means to Me
I didn't grow up thinking about the Five Elements directly. It wasn't something my family ever sat down and explained. But once I started researching it for Le Lian, I recognized pieces of it everywhere: the friend who's all Fire and can't sit still, the season where all I want is to slow down and turn inward.
It stopped feeling like an abstract philosophy and started feeling like a language for things I'd already noticed but never had words for. That's what I wanted Le Lian to hold onto. Not just the history, but the way it actually helps you name what you need.
Old Wisdom, Modern Noise
Wu Xing is over two thousand years old, a system built to explain balance long before anyone needed a word for burnout. It reads like something from a slower world: five elements, each with its own quality, none of them dominant for long.
The more I've sat with it, the more I think it fits now more than ever. Most of us move through the day in a near-constant state of low-grade stress: notifications, urgency, the pressure to always be doing something. I don't think a bracelet can undo that. But I do think there's something worth having in a small, physical object that quietly asks you which element you're missing today, and gives you permission to go find it.
Why Le Lian
Every piece is hand-knotted, one at a time. It's not the fastest way to make a bracelet, but it's the only way I know to keep each one honest. I want Le Lian to feel less like a jewelry brand and more like a small, considered gift you give yourself on a day you need it.
If you ever have a question about a piece, a stone, or which element fits you, reach out. I read every message myself.
With intention,
Siyuan, Founder of Le Lian
